Arduino Test #1
Did a test run with the Arduino board and software, everything is in working order :)
Below is a basic blinking led light sketch built into the Arduino open project software.
Next I will learn about the physical interaction capabilities between Arduino and Adobe Flash. I am working on this tutorial: Interfacing Flash and Arduino from scratch, and learning about Flash and the as3glue library.
Currently reading: Open Softwear for ideas on working with the Arduino board and soft circuits.

Audio
This is just an update on what we plan to do for the audio soundscape
I have also talked to pat about the direction our audio will go in, we intend to do lot of layering of sounds to create the “sound of silence” and ambient sounds found in a forest. We will be using 4/5 mics for outdoor recording and then we will be using 5.1 surround sound to output our recordings in the room. I have used the outdoor recording equipment previously so I am confident we will be able to capture high quality sounds for replay.
I have been thinking about what kind of audio samples and recordings have to be done and talked about it in depth with the group to make sure we all agree on the atmosphere we want the user to get from the project. I have surveyed a number of people to see what kind of sounds and elements they would expect from a forest. I have broken the sounds into different categories:
• Background track
• Ambient sound of the forest
• Individual Elemental sounds
• Sound effects
For the background track we will be using original compositions by team member Alannagh Brennan. The piece we have chosen for the background track is a whimsical piece of music using layered acoustic guitars and reverbs to create an ambient and relaxing atmosphere. It is a beautiful piece that we will be looping throughout the duration of the project. We will use a low pass filter that will slowly build to a higher frequency once the forest is at its climax of growth and expression. The piece will be layered so that the more the user interacts with it the higher the frequency and the louder and more exciting it sounds. The background piece will play on a 5 minute loop.
Ambient sound of the forest
This is the “sound of silence” that we will be recording to create a forest like an effect it will be a subtle recording to gain an atmosphere of outdoors, of wilderness and it will be played throughout the opening sequence of the piece and fade back as the elemental sounds and the forest sound effects come into effect.
